Overview of rental rules

Below you will find a practical overview of the main car rental terms. Full and legally binding details are always specified in the rental agreement signed when the vehicle is collected.

As a rule, the renter presents two valid documents for identification, typically an ID card or passport together with a valid driving licence. The relevant information is entered into the rental paperwork.

The agreed rental price and the security deposit are normally paid upon collection of the car. Vehicles are insured, while the exact insurance excess depends on the selected category and is always stated in the contract.

The vehicle is delivered at the pre-arranged place and time. After the rental period ends, the renter is obliged to return it without delay, in appropriate condition and with a fuel level that is not lower than at handover, unless another arrangement was confirmed in advance.

If the vehicle is returned after the agreed time, a late-return charge of 100 CZK for each commenced hour may be applied, unless a different arrangement was approved beforehand.

If an accident, damage or fault occurs, the renter must first secure the situation safely and then inform the lessor without unnecessary delay. In serious cases or where required by law, the police must be called and the contractual procedure followed.

Use of the vehicle outside the Czech Republic is allowed only after prior consent from the lessor. For foreign travel, the renter may need to secure, at their own expense, assistance coverage including towing back to the Czech Republic.

Smoking inside the vehicle is not permitted. Transport of animals is possible only if explicitly agreed in advance. The renter must avoid damage to the interior or exterior and must not hand the car over to any person not named in the agreement.

Any traffic fines, toll-related penalties or similar charges incurred during the rental period are borne by the renter. Additional billing may also arise for missing fuel, lost or damaged keys/documents, extraordinary dirt or special interior cleaning.

Personal data is processed for contract performance, statutory obligations and legitimate interests of the lessor. The vehicle may also contain a GPS / location system, used only in justified situations such as recovery of the car, and only for the duration relevant under the contract.

For legal purposes, the decisive wording is always the signed rental contract.
